Clear aligners, without the guesswork.

Invisalign has become the default request in Cupertino. Most patients walk in already knowing they want aligners. What they usually have not been told is that the trays are only half the equation — two orthodontists can order the same plastic from the same lab and produce very different results, because the outcome lives in the movement sequence, the attachment design, and the judgment about what aligners can and cannot do on their own.

That part is not delegated here. Every case is staged personally by Dr. Luke, an ABO Diplomate — a credential held by roughly 35% of practicing orthodontists. More than 80% of the cases he treats are Invisalign, and that volume is the difference between a practice that offers clear aligners and a practice that has solved thousands of clear aligner problems.

Our office sits on S De Anza Blvd, minutes from Apple Park, De Anza College, and Cupertino Village. Most of our adult patients book around a standup or a commute. Most of our teens arrive after last period from Monta Vista, Cupertino, or Lynbrook. The schedule is built for both.

Are you a candidate for Invisalign?

Most people are. But "most" is not "all," and an honest answer at the consultation is what keeps you from a compromised result eighteen months later.

Invisalign handles crowding, spacing, and gaps predictably. It manages mild to moderate overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite well, particularly when the underlying jaw relationship is reasonable to begin with. It is also excellent for relapse cases — the adults who wore braces in high school, drifted away from their retainers, and watched the lower front teeth slowly rotate back over a decade. That is one of the most common reasons a Cupertino adult books a smile exam.

Where aligners get harder: significant rotation of round-rooted teeth like premolars and canines, large vertical movements, closing extraction spaces, and cases where the jaws themselves are mismatched enough that growth modification or surgery is the honest answer. None of these are automatic disqualifications. They mean the plan needs engineered attachments, elastics, occasionally temporary anchorage devices, or a hybrid approach that starts with braces and finishes in aligners.

Then there is compliance, which is the half nobody markets. Aligners only move teeth when they are in your mouth 20 to 22 hours a day. If you already know that is not going to happen, braces are not a failure — they are the correct tool, because they work whether you remember them or not. Dr. Luke will tell you that directly rather than sell you the appliance you asked for.

Invisalign works well for
  • Crowding and crooked front teeth
  • Gaps and generalized spacing
  • Mild to moderate overbite, underbite, and crossbite
  • Relapse after childhood braces
  • Adults who cannot have visible brackets at work
  • Patients with a history of decalcification around brackets
Braces may be the better call
  • Severe rotations of canines or premolars
  • Large vertical movement or significant intrusion
  • Closing spaces after extractions
  • Skeletal discrepancies needing growth guidance or surgery
  • Young patients with many baby teeth still present
  • Anyone who honestly will not wear trays 22 hours a day
The Process

From first scan to final retainer.

Six steps, start to finish. No impression trays at any point.

1
45–60 minutes · Complimentary

Your smile exam

Dr. Luke examines your bite, reviews your dental history, and takes low-dose digital records including CBCT imaging where it is clinically warranted. You will hear what he actually sees — including whether Invisalign is the right appliance for your case or whether something else would serve you better.

2
About 10 minutes

iTero Lumina digital scan

A handheld wand captures a full-color 3D model of both arches in a few minutes. No trays, no impression material, no gagging. The Lumina's smaller wand and wider capture field make it noticeably faster than earlier scanners, which matters most with squirmy ten-year-olds and anyone with a sensitive gag reflex.

3
Same visit

See your projected result

Your scan produces a simulation of where your teeth can end up. It is a planning tool rather than a guarantee, and Dr. Luke will say so plainly — but seeing the projected outcome next to your current bite is usually the moment the decision becomes easy.

4
1–2 weeks

Dr. Luke stages your case

This is the work that decides your result. He sequences every movement, designs the attachment placement, sets the biomechanics, and revises the digital plan until it matches what he wants clinically. It is not sent out, and it is not approved with a glance. Aligners are then manufactured to that plan.

5
About 60 minutes

Delivery and attachments

Tooth-colored attachments are bonded where the plan calls for them, giving the aligners something to push against. You will be taught insertion, removal, cleaning, and the 20-to-22-hour rule, and you go home with several sets of trays. Most patients change trays weekly, at night, so the initial tightness passes while they sleep.

6
Every 8–10 weeks · then retention

Progress checks and retention

Visits are short and spaced out — a real advantage for anyone commuting or on a school schedule. Dr. Luke tracks whether your teeth are following the plan and refines it if they are not. When you finish, custom retainers hold the result. Teeth move for life, so retention is the part that makes the investment permanent.

Adults, teens, and kids — three different problems.

The appliance has the same name. The clinical thinking behind it does not.

AdultsRoughly 20 and up

Discretion, and a bite that has to last

Adult bone does not remodel as readily as a teenager's, so movements are planned more conservatively and treatment often runs slightly longer. Adults also arrive with history: old crowns, veneers, a missing molar, gum recession, worn edges from years of grinding. Dr. Luke plans around all of it, and coordinates with your general dentist when restorative work needs to happen before, during, or after alignment.

The practical appeal is that nobody sees them. Aligners come out for a client lunch and go back in afterward. Most adult cases at our Cupertino office run 12 to 24 months depending on complexity, with visits every 8 to 10 weeks.

TeensRoughly 12–19

Invisalign Teen, built for real teenagers

Invisalign Teen includes compliance indicators that fade with wear, so parents are not relying on a promise, plus eruption tabs that leave room for second molars still coming in. Replacement aligners are included in the package, which matters more than it sounds — trays get lost.

For a Monta Vista or Lynbrook student, the case for aligners is usually practical rather than cosmetic: no brackets to catch a mouthguard, no wire emergencies before a tournament or a performance, no food restrictions during finals week. The tradeoff is honest and worth saying out loud — an unmotivated teenager will do better in braces, and Dr. Luke will recommend them when that is the truth.

KidsRoughly 6–11

Invisalign First and Phase 1

The AAO recommends a first orthodontic evaluation at age 7, when the first permanent molars and incisors have typically come in. Dr. Luke is proactively Phase 1-forward: when early treatment genuinely changes the outcome, he treats rather than watches for two years.

Invisalign First is designed for mixed dentition — it accounts for baby teeth that will be lost and permanent teeth still erupting, and it can expand arches and create room for crowded permanent teeth. For many kids it is a comfortable, removable alternative to fixed appliances. Not every child needs Phase 1, and you will get a straight answer about whether yours does. Who We Treat

Three Cupertino cases we see every week.

Representative patient profiles — the situations that walk through our door on S De Anza Blvd most often.

Profile 01 · Adult

The Apple Park commuter

Mid-thirties, in back-to-back meetings, wore braces in the ninth grade and stopped wearing the retainer somewhere around sophomore year. The lower incisors have crowded back in and it has started to show in photos. Visible brackets are a non-starter professionally.

This is close to an ideal aligner case: modest movement, high motivation, and a patient who will actually wear the trays. Visits every 8 to 10 weeks fit around a calendar that has no room in it.

Typical range12–18 months
Common approachComprehensive Invisalign
Profile 02 · Teen

The Monta Vista junior

Sixteen, plays a spring sport, has a marching band commitment and a schedule that does not tolerate emergency appointments for a poking wire. Moderate crowding in the upper arch and a deep bite. The parents want it handled before college applications; the student wants it invisible in photos.

Invisalign Teen with compliance indicators lets both of those things be true at once — and lets the mouthguard go in without brackets underneath it.

Typical range14–22 months
Common approachInvisalign Teen
Profile 03 · Child

The age-7 evaluation

Second grader referred by a Cupertino Village pediatric dentist. Narrow upper arch, a developing crossbite, and permanent incisors erupting with nowhere to go. The parents were told to come in now and are not sure whether that means treatment today.

Sometimes it does. Sometimes the answer is a growth check in twelve months. When Phase 1 is warranted, Invisalign First can widen the arch and create space while the jaw is still cooperative — a window that closes.

How people actually pay for it

We are out-of-network with most insurance plans. That sounds worse than it is: most PPO plans provide orthodontic benefits that apply to out-of-network providers, frequently a lifetime maximum somewhere between $1,500 and $3,000. Our team verifies your benefits before treatment begins, files the documentation, and works to maximize what comes back to you. If you and a spouse both carry coverage, we coordinate dual insurance.

HSA and FSA funds are accepted, and orthodontics is a qualified expense — for many Cupertino households that alone covers a meaningful share of the fee with pre-tax dollars.

0% in-house financing

We finance treatment ourselves. There is no third-party lender, no credit check, and no interest. You make a down payment and spread the balance across monthly payments over the course of treatment. If you prefer to pay in full by Zelle, check, or cash, we extend a 3% courtesy discount.

What we will not do is quote you a monthly figure over the phone before anyone has looked in your mouth. The number depends on your case, and a real answer takes about an hour. Full details on our insurance and financing page.

Why Agape

Why Cupertino patients choose Agape for Invisalign

Anyone can order clear aligners. The outcome depends on who plans them.

An orthodontist, not a general dentist

Orthodontics is a recognized dental specialty requiring two to three years of residency after dental school. Dr. Luke completed his at the Georgia School of Orthodontics and is an ABO Diplomate — a credential roughly 35% of orthodontists hold.

The same doctor at every visit

Dr. Luke stages your case and personally sees you at each appointment. No rotating associates, and no assistant deciding whether your teeth are tracking to plan.

iTero Lumina and CBCT

Digital scanning replaces impression trays entirely, and cone-beam imaging shows root position and airway anatomy that a flat X-ray cannot — used when a case warrants it, not by default.

Airway-informed planning

Arch width, jaw position, and tongue posture are part of every treatment plan. How a bite functions over decades matters as much as how it photographs at debond.

Transparent, financed in-house

0% payment plans with no lender and no credit check. Out-of-network PPO benefits verified and maximized before you start, so there are no billing surprises in month nine.

A straight answer about fit

If braces would give you a better result than aligners, you will hear that at the consultation rather than after eighteen months of compromise. Bilingual care in English and Chinese — 愛加倍矯正診所.

Invisalign in Cupertino — common questions

Most comprehensive adult cases run 12 to 24 months. Limited cases correcting minor front-tooth crowding can finish in 6 to 10 months, and Phase 1 treatment for children typically runs 9 to 18 months. The single biggest variable is not your case — it is your wear time. Patients who keep trays in 22 hours a day finish close to the projected date. Patients who average 15 hours do not.
At Agape the two are priced comparably for equivalent case complexity. Cost tracks how much correction is required, not which appliance delivers it. Because we treat a high volume of aligner cases, we are not pricing Invisalign as a premium upgrade. You will get your exact figure at your complimentary smile exam, and 0% in-house financing is available with no credit check.
We are out-of-network with most plans, but most PPO plans provide orthodontic benefits that apply to out-of-network providers — often a lifetime maximum between $1,500 and $3,000. We verify your benefits before treatment begins, handle the documentation, and work to maximize your reimbursement. HSA and FSA are accepted, and we coordinate dual insurance when both parents or spouses carry coverage.
In normal conversation, almost never. The aligners themselves are thin and clear. Most cases do require tooth-colored attachments bonded to some teeth, which are visible up close if someone is looking — they are what give the trays leverage, and skipping them costs you predictability. Most patients notice a slight lisp for two to three days that resolves as the tongue adapts.
Often, yes. Invisalign Teen includes compliance indicators that fade with wear so you are not relying on your teenager's account of their own habits, eruption tabs for molars still coming in, and replacement aligners for the ones that get lost. It is genuinely popular with student athletes and performers at Monta Vista, Cupertino, and Lynbrook. That said, Dr. Luke will recommend braces if he believes compliance is unrealistic — the best appliance is the one that actually finishes the case.
Call us during business hours. Depending on where you are in the sequence, we will either move you forward, have you go back to the previous tray, or order a replacement. The important thing is telling us quickly — the longer you go without a tray in your mouth, the more your teeth drift and the more likely the next set will not seat properly.
Partly. We offer Invisalign Virtual Care for progress monitoring between appointments, which reduces how often you need to come in — useful if you travel for work. But mail-order aligner companies that skip clinical examination entirely are a different proposition. Moving teeth without a diagnosis, X-rays, and someone accountable for the result is how people end up with bite problems and root damage that cost far more to fix than the treatment saved.
Yes, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. Teeth have a lifelong tendency to drift, which is exactly why so many of our adult Invisalign patients are people who had braces in high school. Full-time wear tapers to nights within a few months, and nighttime retention is a permanent habit — a small one that protects the whole investment. Your first set is included.
